July 24 - 30, 2011. This year
marks the 39th running of The Register's Annual Great
Bicycle Ride Across Iowa [RAGBRAI].
It is the oldest, largest and longest bicycle touring
event in the world. Last year, our own Dr. Melanie
Comito rode in the bike tour and raised over $1,100 for
our mission! This year, Comito will ride with team
Fishcious Cyclers, biking to cure vicious childhood
brain tumors!
The ride begins in Glenwood, Iowa and traverses 454 miles
across the state to end in Davenport. Fishcious
Cyclers will
have to bike an average of 65 miles each day with
thousands of other riders to make the distance.
This is not a race, but a ride, and the proceeds from
rider registrations and event sponsorships benefit
nonprofit Iowa programs and organizations throughout the
Des Moines Register's community investment program.
KMF is teaming up for the second year with Comito and
her team of Fishcious Cyclers to bring awareness to
other riders and spectators of the ride regarding
pediatric brain cancer and the need for funding for
research initiatives. KMF will provide the team
with comfortable tank tops, and they will provide extra
means of promoting the cause during the ride.
To download a pledge form to help Fiscious Cyclers raise money
for pediatric brain cancer cures, click
here. Donors wishing to contribute via credit
card may do so by coming to our website and clicking the
Buy Now button to the right. As we did last
year, for every $50 raised we will place a hole or cart
sponsor sign for that donor at our 4th Annual KMF Golf
Classic on August 19th at Felicita in Harrisburg, PA.
Keep track of how well we're doing by coming back often
to check our meter, and to read Dr. Comito's blog of the
ride across Iowa!
