One of the heaviest burdens that families face when a
child has cancer is financial obligation. Often
times parents need to take time off work for hospital
visits, doctor appointments, school appointments,
therapy appointments... the list goes on. Do you
even have medical insurance to cover the cost of your
child's treatments? Or in the plan that you are on
limited in what it will cover? At Penn State
Children's Hospital in Hershey, Pennsylvania, all
children diagnosed with cancer are accepted into the
Four Diamonds Fund. Four Diamonds is
exclusively engaged with Penn State Children's Hospital
to provide financial assistance to the families of
children with cancer. Any medical payments that
are not covered by your child's insurance plan are
picked up by Four Diamonds. Four Diamonds also
assists the family with limited financial assistance for
some other types of bills as well as funeral assistance.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is another
children's hospital that will pay medical bills for
children undergoing treatment. Talk with your
child's social worker to find out what other types of
financial assistance are available, such as the
American Cancer Society (ACS). ACS will
reimburse you up to $300 per year in mileage while
undergoing treatment.
